Pat was a professional basketball player whereas her wife attended theUniversity of San Diego when they met in 1968.

Chris dropped out of college to be a full-time wife to Pat, but in 1972 she went back to college and earned herself a degree in psychology. Later she went to Cal State Northridge subsequently earning a masters degree in educational psychology in 1975 .
