His father is a decorated war veteran who was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in 1953 after fighting in World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. Ina Garten’s husband served in the US army from 1968 to 1972 where he held the rank of Lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division. He has a brother, Allan Garten, who is currently a retired federal prosecutor residing in Portland, Oregon.
